✓ What We Buy

Smart Recycling pays cash for good condition clothing and accessories — either at one of our drop-off points (40p per kg) or collected from your doorstep (30p per kg). We also accept a range of household textiles and bric-a-brac items that we can't pay for but will gladly take and put to good use. The fuller your bags, the more you earn — so it's worth knowing everything we accept before your clear-out.

What We Pay For

The items below earn you cash. Bring them to a drop-off point at 40p per kg, or book a collection at 30p per kg. All items should be clean and in good, wearable condition.

  • Clean adults' and children's clothing — everyday wear, occasionwear, seasonal items. Clean, dry, and wearable.
  • Coats and jackets — all styles. Good condition, no heavy damage or missing fastenings.
  • Paired shoes — all footwear in wearable condition. Tie or band pairs together.
  • Handbags, belts and fashion accessories — handbags, shoulder bags, clutches, belts, scarves, and ties.
  • Bras — all sizes and styles. Clean and in reasonable condition.
  • Soft toys and teddies — clean soft toys in good condition. We pay 10p per kg for soft toys at our drop-off points. Soft toys can also be included in home collections but aren't paid for through that service.

What We Accept But Can't Pay For

The items below are gratefully accepted but fall outside our paid categories. They won't add to your payment, but including them means they get reused or recycled rather than going to landfill.

  • Bed linen — sheets, duvet covers, and pillowcases. No duvets or pillows.
  • Curtains — clean curtains and net curtains in good condition.
  • Towels — hand towels, bath towels, and beach towels.
  • Bric-a-brac — antiques, ornaments, kitchenware, clocks, musical instruments, pictures, sports equipment, tools, and utensils. Items should be no larger than a standard microwave.

✕ What We Can't Accept

To keep our service running smoothly and ensure items can be reused, there are some things we're unable to take. Including these can affect the overall value of your collection:

  • Wet, damp, dirty, or heavily soiled items
  • Clothing with strong odours or animal hair
  • Damaged or heavily worn clothing
  • School uniforms and workwear
  • Personalised or event clothing
  • Socks, underwear, dressing gowns, and pyjamas (unless new and unused)
  • Duvets, pillows, cushions, heavy blankets, throws, and sleeping bags
  • Books, CDs and DVDs
  • Furniture and items larger than a standard microwave
  • Hazardous materials

FAQ

Q: What's the difference between your drop-off and collection rates?
A: Drop-off pays 40p per kg — you bring your items to one of our locations and get paid on the spot. Collections pay 30p per kg — we come to your door, which is the more convenient option if you have a large amount.

Q: Do you pay for soft toys?
A: Yes — we pay 10p per kg for clean soft toys and teddies in good condition. Bag them up alongside your clothing and they'll be weighed and paid for as part of your collection.

Q: What about bric-a-brac and household items?
A: We accept bric-a-brac, bed linen, curtains, and towels but we can't pay for these categories. They're still worth including — they'll be reused or recycled rather than going to landfill.

Q: What condition do items need to be in?
A: Clean, dry, and in good usable condition. Wet, soiled, or heavily damaged items can't be accepted and may reduce the overall value of your collection.

Q: How do I get paid?
A: At drop-off locations you're paid immediately in cash or by card. For collections, payment is made by bank transfer within 2 working days.
